Freeway, the rescued sea lion known for roaming around San Diego, has died due to a progressive disease despite extensive treatment. SeaWorld San Diego announced the news and paid tribute to the adventurous sea lion who won the hearts of San Diegans. Freeway was rescued last year after he was found on a busy freeway and was transported to SeaWorld San Diego Rescue Center for rehabilitation. The park did not specify what the disease was but said that the team made the compassionate decision to humanely euthanize him. Tributes to Freeway poured in on social media.
