Man Arrested for Cruelly Dumping 16-Year-Old Dog in Garbage Bag

Anthony Bellman, a 55-year-old man from Florida, was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty after he was caught on surveillance video tossing a 16-year-old Shih Tzu named Xyla into a dumpster. Bellman had allegedly strangled the dog and attempted to break her neck instead of taking her to be euthanized. Xyla was found by an employee at a Family Dollar store and is now recovering from her injuries. Bellman's arrest comes after Lee County Commissioners approved the creation of an animal abuse registry, similar to the sex offender registry, to dissuade others from allowing convicted animal abusers to adopt pets.
