Rare Sighting: Mountain Lion Roams Southwest Sioux Falls

A mountain lion was captured on a home surveillance camera in southwest Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The city assures there is currently no threat to the public, as mountain lions have been known to pass through the area before. This is the first confirmed sighting this year, although there have been other reports without proof. The mountain lion is likely a young male pushed out of its pride and may have already moved on from Sioux Falls. The South Dakota Game Fish and Parks have been tracking mountain lion reports since 1995, with a peak in 2004-2005. The population has been sustainable enough to allow for a hunting season each year.
