'Love & Death' Struggles to Bring New Perspective to Candy Montgomery Case: Review

HBO Max's Love & Death, a seven-part miniseries, chronicles the notorious Candy Montgomery case, in which a Texas housewife (played by Elizabeth Olsen) brutally murders her friend with an axe. While the show offers a more restrained and empathetic tone than Hulu's Candy, it still falls short in shedding light on the central case. The series focuses on Candy's perspective, leaving little insight into the victim's motivations. Despite some fine lead performances, Love & Death ultimately offers frustratingly little insight into the case.
