Tommaso Ciampa was originally planned to make his return by answering Seth Rollins' open challenge match on WWE RAW, but Vince McMahon made a late change to the show and Finn Balor attacked Rollins instead. The match was reportedly scheduled to get a lot of time, but plans changed multiple times in the days prior to RAW and then a few hours before the show. Ciampa ended up defeating The Miz in his return match.
