HGTV Star Tarek El Moussa Sparks Outrage with Rent-Controlled Evictions in North Hollywood

HGTV star Tarek El Moussa is facing backlash from long-term rent-controlled tenants in North Hollywood after threatening to evict them from their homes to make way for a 138-unit apartment block. The tenants, some of whom have lived in their homes for over 50 years, have been served "Ellis Act" notices, allowing landlords to evict them with 120 days' notice. El Moussa's real estate investment firms, TEM Capital and HEM Capital, have stated that the tenants will be offered compensation and that the relocation process will be handled lawfully and respectfully. However, critics on social media have accused El Moussa of abusing the Ellis Act and mistreating the tenants.
