He was found unresponsive at his home in Marblehead, Massachusetts, with the exact cause of death remaining unknown. Breashears was a five-time Everest summiter and founded GlacierWorks, an organization highlighting the impact of climate change on Himalayan glaciers. He also transmitted the first live TV pictures from Everest's summit in 1983 and was the first U.S. citizen to reach the summit twice in 1985.
