Shane MacGowan: Punk Icon and Irish Rebel, Passes Away at 65

Shane MacGowan, the former songwriter and frontman for the Pogues, known for fusing punk rock with Irish music, has died at the age of 65. MacGowan emerged from London's punk scene in the late 1970s and spent nine years with the Pogues before his addictions and deteriorating health led to his departure. He later formed Shane MacGowan & the Popes and continued to record and tour. MacGowan's lyrics, particularly in the hit song "Fairytale of New York," painted vivid portraits of Irish emigrant life. He is survived by his wife, sister, and father.
