Kurt Cobain's smashed Fender Stratocaster, which was once put back together and is no longer playable, was sold at Julien's Auctions for $596,000, nearly 10 times more than the opening price. The guitar was wrecked while Cobain and his band worked on their landmark album, Nevermind, in the early 1990s and was eventually repaired and gifted to his friend and musical collaborator, Mark Lanegan of the Screaming Trees. The guitar features inscriptions from Cobain, Novoselic, and Grohl, and is considered a highly collectible item.
