Ben Affleck stars in a silly yet entertaining sci-fi thriller reminiscent of Inception.

Robert Rodriguez's latest film, "Hypnotic," starring Ben Affleck, is a twisty thriller about a detective, a missing daughter, and psychics. However, the convoluted plot and ridiculous twists make it closer to "Inception for Dummies" than the mesmerizing neuro-noir it aims to be. Despite Rodriguez's pulpy verve and ability to switch up playfulness and high-tension pacing, "Hypnotic" falls short and feels like a cover-band version of an auteur.
