"The Little Mermaid": Cameos, Critiques, and Zodiac Signs

Jodi Benson, the original voice of Ariel in Disney's 1989 animated classic, makes a cameo appearance in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Benson appears briefly as a woman who hands Ariel (played by Halle Bailey) a fork to comb her hair with in a local marketplace. The scene already existed in the screenplay, but director Rob Marshall reimagined it to include Benson's cameo. Benson spent over a month in the UK to film the scene during the pandemic. The entire cast and crew were thrilled to have Benson on set, and Bailey even asked her to sing snippets of "Part of Your World."
