James Marsters on Buffy Character Love, Fan Questions, and Episode Rankings

James Marsters, who played Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, revealed that the writers never knew what to do with his character, who became a fan favorite. The original idea for the show was that vampires were metaphors for the challenges of high school or life and were designed to be overcome. Marsters said he would have killed off Spike after three episodes if he had his way, but the writers were more imaginative and courageous than he would have been.
