"Blue Beetle" Soars Past "Barbie" at the Box Office

Warner Bros' new DC superhero film, Blue Beetle, is expected to dethrone Barbie at the box office with an opening weekend of $28M-$32M, while Barbie is projected to earn $22M-$24M in its fourth weekend. Blue Beetle is attracting Latino and Hispanic audiences and will be released in over 3,800 locations, including IMAX and Dolby Cinemas. Universal's comedy film, Strays, featuring the voices of Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, and others, is also releasing this weekend and is expected to perform well. The overall box office for summer 2023 is up 16% compared to last year, reaching $3.6 billion.
