"Chicago Museum Paves the Way for Art Education"

The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago has partnered with educator Romi Crawford to launch the New Art School Modality, a semester-long program that offers free courses in Black art history taught by scholars and artists of color. The program aims to provide an alternative mode of art education in response to the closure of traditional art schools and the high cost of studying fine art. The first semester will focus on the lessons of FESTAC 77, a Pan-African convening of Black artists in 1977. The program does not offer a degree or college credit but aims to create apprenticeships in the arts and make art more accessible.
