Terry Jon Martin, a retired mobster, was sentenced to time served for the 2005 theft of Dorothy’s ruby slippers from the Judy Garland Museum in Minnesota. Martin, who is in hospice care and expected to die within months, was spared prison time due to his declining health. He was convinced by a former associate to steal the slippers, believing they were adorned with real gems, but later learned they were fake. The slippers, valued at $3.5 million, were recovered in 2018 and will be auctioned off.
