Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou, a renowned Ethiopian nun, composer, and pianist, has passed away at the age of 99. She spent almost 40 years at the Ethiopian Monastery in Jerusalem and composed over 150 original works of music for piano, organ, opera, and chamber ensembles. Guèbrou's music has been used in various films and documentaries, and she donated proceeds from her first album to help Ethiopian children orphaned by war. Her legacy includes the Emahoy Tsege Mariam Music Foundation, which helps children in need study music.
