Brent Sikkema, the founder of the New York gallery Sikkema Jenkins & Co., was found dead at 75 in a Rio de Janeiro apartment with stab wounds. The gallery confirmed his death, and an investigation is ongoing. Sikkema Jenkins & Co. is a well-regarded gallery in New York, representing artists such as Jeffrey Gibson and Kara Walker. Sikkema launched the gallery in 1991 and moved it to Chelsea in 1999, where it is currently located. Prior to this, he had opened a gallery in Boston in 1976 and worked at the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, New York.
