United Airlines is increasing its checked bag fee for U.S. travelers by $5, making it $40 for the first bag and $50 for the second. The increase follows a similar move by American Airlines earlier in the week, with both airlines citing rising fuel costs as a factor. Certain customers, such as United Chase credit card holders and MileagePlus Premier members, as well as active military members and those traveling in premium cabins, will still be able to check a bag for free.
