China Implements Two-Hour Daily Phone Limit for Children

China's Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has proposed limiting children under the age of 18 to a maximum of two hours of smartphone usage per day and implementing time restrictions on internet access for minors. The CAC's draft guidelines also suggest that providers of smart devices introduce "minor mode" programs to block internet access for users under 18 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Shares in Chinese tech companies, including Bilibili, Kuaishou, and Tencent Holdings, fell following the announcement. The proposed rules aim to address concerns about myopia and internet addiction among young people, but implementing them may pose challenges for internet companies.
