AT&T Discovers Minimal Lead Coverage in Network Cables
AT&T Inc. has stated that less than 10% of its nationwide copper-wire telecom network is comprised of lead-clad cables, addressing concerns over potential contamination and cleanup costs. The company clarified that lead-clad cables make up a small part of its network, with the majority either buried or in conduit, followed by aerial lines on poles and a small portion running underwater. This comes after a Wall Street Journal report highlighted lead contamination in over 2,000 telecom cables across the US. AT&T strongly disagrees with the report and is conducting additional tests, offering free lead testing to union employees who have worked with lead-covered cables.
