Seattle Homeowner Forced to Live in Van as Deadbeat Tenant Lists House on Airbnb

A Seattle homeowner, Jason Roth, is forced to live in his van for five more months as his tenant, Kareem Hunter, continues to occupy his property without paying rent. Hunter had been illegally listing the home on Airbnb for $434 a night while falling behind on rent. Due to a backlog of eviction cases, Roth's court hearing to evict Hunter has been scheduled for March 2024, surpassing the length of the tenancy. Roth, who is still making mortgage payments and paying for pilot school, expressed frustration with the lack of assistance from the city.
