Yuga Labs Prevails in Landmark NFT Copyright Case

Bored Ape Yacht Club creator Yuga Labs has won a pre-trial summary judgement in a trademark infringement case against Ryder Ripps and Jeremy Cahen over their copycat RR/BAYC NFT collection. The judge ruled in favor of Yuga Labs, stating that they are entitled to an injunction and damages. The defendants had claimed that their project was a parody protected by the first amendment, but the judge found that they had committed "false designation of origin." Yuga Labs described the judgement as a "landmark legal victory for Web3."
