Beware: Tampered Gift Cards Target Holiday Shoppers, Police Warn

Police are warning shoppers about scammers tampering with gift cards by carefully opening the envelopes, removing the actual card, and replacing it with a tampered one. The scammers keep the access code portion of the card and place the barcode portion back on the shelf, making it difficult to detect the tampering until the gift card is purchased and opened. Shoppers are advised to feel for the entire card or remove it from the envelope to ensure it hasn't been tampered with before purchasing.
