FAA Implements New Cockpit Security Barrier Rule for New Planes

The FAA has mandated that all new airplanes in the US must have secondary barriers installed in the cockpit to protect pilots during flight. The new rule goes into effect in 60 days, but airlines have until mid-2025 to comply. Prior to this rule, airlines were responsible for developing their own security procedures to keep the cockpit protected when the door was open during flight. The new mandate is expected to be much more effective than ad hoc procedures airlines are currently using.
