"GM Recalls 323,000 Heavy-Duty Pickups for Unexpectedly Opening Tailgates"
General Motors is recalling over 323,000 heavy-duty pickup trucks due to a potential issue with the electronic tailgate release switches, which can short circuit and open the gates while the vehicles are in park. This recall affects certain Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks from 2020 through 2024 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warns that water ingress into the switches could lead to unsecured cargo falling out of the beds, posing a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash. GM advises owners to ensure the tailgate is closed and latched before driving and dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch, with notifications to owners starting March 18.
